Today is a very sad day for America.
These footprints evoke what was lost as well as the human drama that took place there in a way that no museum or memorial ever could. If destroyed, future visitors will be robbed of the ability to grasp the true scale of the twin towers and will be denied access to the only tangible scar the attacks left on our nation's soil.
Their plans destroy the remnants of the footprints. We're trying to prevent the LMDC from making a terrible mistake.
The IFC threatens to turn ground zero into a place of endless controversy rather than a place of honor.
Governor Pataki, you've ruled Ground Zero with an iron fist for too long. You've let corporate elites and other special interest groups dominate what's done here.
The International Freedom Center has now confirmed that it plans to take the memory of 9/11 and use it to flog their own personal ideology. Politics left, right or in the middle do not belong on sacred ground. Ground zero should not be used as a public square.
We are not opposed to the rebuilding moving forward. We just don't want it to move forward and the physical remains of the footprints to be destroyed in that process.
Our focus has always been to ensure the maximum preservation and access to the remains of the footprints for the American people and future visitors to the site.
They are the last scar that 9/11 has made on this soil.
