When it's real on a team, it's a deep love-pride.
It's like we are slaves, like we are in jail.
I loved Billy Martin. I thought Billy Martin would be a great manager. The one thing that hurt Billy Martin was personal habits. And I told him I loved him, I really did. He was down [in Tampa] just before Christmas. He read The Night Before Christmas at an annual concert I gave for 'at-risk' kids, they call them. I don't like to call any kid 'at-risk.' People went wild for him. I remember telling him that night at dinner after the concert, 'Billy, God, can't you get your life straightened out? I've seen you with your ear hanging off.' He was a genius as a manager. He was as much like Casey Stengel as Casey and that meant a lot to me. And it was three days later they called me and told me Martin was killed. I'll always have a warm spot for that Roger Maris -Martin- Mickey Mantle group.
I always like to get out of stuff in order to get back into it. Side projects keep my perspective fresh with playing with Chris and John.
If he was having an intimate relationship with her at the end of April, beginning of May, he of all people would know her state of mind. We know that she was upbeat from telephone messages she left and we would like the congressman to tell us not just when and where he met with her, but what they talked about and what was her mood.
Getting information from Congressman Condit is like pulling teeth. It comes out only when he's forced to admit these facts. The family does not believe that anything short of a polygraph ... would give them any confidence.
He lied. He misrepresented his relationship. He told her no.
We will once again try as vigorous and zealous a case as we can to prove to yet another jury that this was an accident.
He's a crook. He's conflicted.
We do not have evidence to accuse Congressman Gary Condit of Chandra's disappearance and, now, her death, but we do have reason to believe he knew a lot more about Chandra.
Although the discovery of Chandra's body closes one chapter and brings some resolution to this ordeal, it does not ... solve the mystery of what happened to Chandra, ... We will continue, along with the police, our investigation to find the person or persons who did this to Chandra.
If there was one issue that ran through this, it was the issue of plea deals and immunity.
Bill Campbell has been waiting for this moment to tell his side of the story. He may have done some things he's not proud of, but it was not bribery and it was not illegal.
If you think he needs to steal money, look at the choices he had.
He was spit on; he was beaten; he was screamed and hollered at.
They hope to make you so mad at Bill Campbell that you will lose sight of justice.
Bill Campbell has tried to do the right thing with his taxes. He's a horrible record-keeper. Criminal tax laws do not punish you for making a mistake.
It's a great honor. It's a tough feat to accomplish because there are so many good players in college tennis.
It's been 10 years since we've had somebody ranked that high. He certainly deserves it and has been playing great tennis all year.
